What to do now

The hazard with Children's Swim Vests is drowning: it may not keep someone afloat or safe in water.

  1. Do not use it for swimming or bathing.
  2. Never leave a child alone in or near water, even for a moment.
  3. Follow the corrective action in the notice: a refund, repair or replacement from the business.
  4. If someone has been hurt or the product has failed, report it to Trading Standards through the Citizens Advice consumer service.

Why it matters. Drowning is fast and silent. Bath seats, inflatables and swim aids can give a false sense of security.

Refunds, repairs and replacements

Contact the retailer or the brand using the details in the official notice. Keep your receipt, order confirmation or bank statement if you have one, but a recall remedy should not depend on it.

If you paid by credit card and the item cost more than £100, Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act may let you claim from the card provider. For smaller amounts or debit cards, ask your bank about a chargeback.

The risk

The products do not meet the requirements of Regulation (EU) 2016/425 on Personal Protective Equipment.
