Keenan Seafood prepacked fish products recalled over undeclared milk, egg and other allergens

Undeclared milk

Keenan Seafood is recalling multiple prepacked fish products because some packs contain barley (gluten), crustaceans, egg, fish, milk, mustard, soya and wheat (gluten) which are not mentioned on the label. This means the products are a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to crustaceans, fish, soya, mustard, an allergy or intolerance to egg, milk or milk constituents, cereals containing gluten, or with coeliac disease.

What to do now

This is an allergy alert: milk, egg, fish, crustaceans, gluten, soya and mustard is in Keenan Seafood prepacked fish products without being properly declared. If you or someone you buy for avoids milk, egg, fish, crustaceans, gluten, soya and mustard, do not eat it.

  1. Anyone who avoids milk, egg, fish, crustaceans, gluten, soya and mustard should not eat this product.
  2. Tell anyone else in the household, school bag or lunchbox chain who might reach for it.
  3. Return it to the shop where you bought it for a full refund, with or without a receipt.
  4. Check other packs at home against the details below — the recall only covers the packs listed.

Why it matters. Milk allergy is one of the most common food allergies in children. People who avoid milk because of lactose intolerance may also react, though usually less severely.

Symptoms and when to get help

Look out for

  • an itchy, tingling mouth
  • a raised itchy rash (hives)
  • swelling of the lips, face or eyes
  • stomach pain or being sick

Get help urgently

  • swelling of the tongue or throat, difficulty breathing or swallowing, wheezing, feeling faint, or collapse — use an adrenaline auto-injector if you have one and call 999, saying it is anaphylaxis

This is general information based on NHS public guidance, not medical advice. In an emergency call 999. For urgent advice use NHS 111 (NHS 24 on 111 in Scotland) or, in Northern Ireland, your GP or out-of-hours service.

Getting your money back

Shops selling the product will display a point-of-sale notice and accept returns. You are entitled to your money back; you are not obliged to accept a voucher or replacement unless you want one.

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, food must be of satisfactory quality and as described. A recalled product does not meet that standard.
