What to do now

The hazard with Matalan Baby Sleeping Bags is suffocation or asphyxiation.

  1. Stop using it now. For sleep, a baby needs a firm, flat mattress with no pillows, padding or loose items in the cot.
  2. Store it where children cannot reach it.
  3. Follow the corrective action in the notice: a refund, repair or replacement from Matalan Retail ltd.
  4. Incidents and injuries can be reported to Trading Standards via the Citizens Advice consumer helpline.

Why it matters. Babies cannot move away from something covering their face. Pillows, padded sleeping bags and soft items in the cot are linked to sleep deaths, and that is why many of these products fail UK safety rules.
