What to do now

The risk with Pink Plush Teddy Bear sold on Wish is choking: a part can detach and fits inside a child’s airway.

  1. Remove it from the toy box or cot straight away.
  2. Check the floor and play areas for any parts that have already come off.
  3. This is a safety report rather than a manufacturer recall: the listing has been taken down, but the seller may not contact you. Get in touch with the seller through the marketplace.
  4. Report it to Trading Standards through the Citizens Advice consumer service if the seller does not respond.

Why it matters. Children under three put things in their mouths. Anything small enough to fit through a toilet-roll tube is a choking hazard for them.

Summary

Product Safety Report for pink plush teddy bear presenting a risk of choking and asphyxiation due to easy access to small parts, and a zip opening which enables access to fibrous filling.

The risk

The product presents a risk of choking as small parts (the plastic nose LED lights and zip pull) can be easily detached when the product is used. A young child may place the small part in their mouth and the parents/carers may not notice in time, with the small part able to block a child’s airways and cause internal damage. The zip provides access to fibrous filling, which could also be swallowed by a child and present a risk of asphyxiation. The product also requires improvements to labelling and documentation.

The product does not meet the requirements of the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.

Action taken

OPSS are requiring the withdrawal of the product from the market. The listing has been removed by the online marketplace (Wish).
