What to do now

Wall’s The Classic Scotch Egg and Wall’s 2 Classic Scotch Eggs is being recalled because of Salmonella. The bacteria cause an unpleasant stomach illness for most people and a more serious one for the very young and the very old.

  1. Put it aside, bagged, away from anything that will not be cooked.
  2. Wash your hands after handling the pack, then clean the surfaces, boards and utensils it touched.
  3. Take it back to the shop where you bought it for a full refund, or throw it away if you prefer. You do not usually need a receipt.
  4. If you froze some or put it into another container, check those portions too.

Why it matters. Salmonella usually causes diarrhoea, stomach cramps and a temperature that start within a few days of eating. Freezing does not kill it, and raw or lightly cooked foods carry the highest risk.
