What to do now

The risk with Wrist Rattles is choking: a part can detach and fits inside a child’s airway.

  1. Remove it from the toy box or cot straight away.
  2. Check the floor and play areas for any parts that have already come off.
  3. This is a safety report rather than a manufacturer recall: the listing has been taken down, but the seller may not contact you. Get in touch with the seller through the marketplace.
  4. Report it to Trading Standards through the Citizens Advice consumer service if the seller does not respond.

Why it matters. Children under three put things in their mouths. Anything small enough to fit through a toilet-roll tube is a choking hazard for them.

Summary

Product Safety Report for Wrist Rattles presenting a serious risk of choking.

The risk

The product has been assessed as presenting a serious risk of choking as the seams of the wrist rattles broke at forces of under 60N. If the seams break, this produces small parts which fit into a small parts cylinder. If a baby or small child pulls on the seams, they may break, and a child may place the small part into their mouth and choke. The product also presents a risk of suffocation as the packaging in which the products were supplied was less than the minimum required thickness and there was also access to internal fibrous filling.

The product does not meet the requirements of the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.
