Summary

Product Safety Reports for High Powered Laser Pointers sold via Amazon presenting a serious risk of injuries and damage to sight risk as the lasers have an excessively strong beam, which is not suitable for consumer use.

The risk

The products present a high risk of injuries and damage to sight as they are classed as class 3 and 4 lasers with an excessively strong beam. These are not suitable for consumer use as UKHSA and WHO advises that consumer products sold to the public should be restricted to Class 1 or Class 2. If the beam were to be pointed in the consumers eye, there may be temporary or permanent damage. Testing identified that the products have an excessive accessible emission of laser. The laser safety labels are also incorrect, and the manuals provide incorrect information.
