What to do now

Tests have found a harmful substance in Lovely Baby Doll above the legal limit.

  1. Take it away from children now and stop using it.
  2. Wash your hands after handling it.
  3. This is a safety report rather than a manufacturer recall: the listing has been taken down, but the seller may not contact you. Get in touch with the seller through the marketplace.
  4. Report it to Trading Standards through the Citizens Advice consumer service if the seller does not respond.

Why it matters. Limits on substances such as lead, cadmium, phthalates and formaldehyde exist because of their effects on health over time. Children are more exposed because they chew and handle products.

Summary

Product Safety Report for Lovely Baby Doll presenting a serious chemical risk.

The risk

The battery compartment of the products is not secured by a screw, allowing easy access to the compartment and button cell batteries. The batteries may be placed in the mouth and swallowed, presenting a choking hazard for young children and causing damage to the gastrointestinal tract due to a chemical burn.

Additionally, the plastic material from the doll’s head contains 0.11 ± 0.01% dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and 3.11 ±0.25% bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP). Phthalates may harm the health of children, possibly causing damage to the reproductive system.

The product does not meet the requirements of the REACH Regulations 2008 or the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.
