What to do now

The hazard with Yoto Player 2nd Generation is electric shock: it does not meet the safety requirements that keep live parts away from fingers.

  1. Unplug it now and put it away where nobody will plug it back in.
  2. Do not open it up or try to repair it yourself.
  3. This is a safety report rather than a manufacturer recall: the listing has been taken down, but the seller may not contact you. Get in touch with the seller through the marketplace.
  4. Report it to Trading Standards through the Citizens Advice consumer service if the seller does not respond.

Why it matters. Mains electricity in the UK is 230 volts, enough to cause serious injury or death. Cheap chargers, adaptors and appliances sold online are among the products most often found with this fault.

Get help urgently

Summary

Product Safety Report for Yoto Player 2nd Generation presenting a risk of electric shock.

The risk

The product presents a risk of electric shock as it has been identified that there is a manufacturing defect involving the UK plug adaptor. In some cases, this could cause the UK plug adaptor to break when the user attempts to remove the plug from the socket, leaving live pins exposed. If the user were to touch these live parts, they could receive an electric shock.

The product does not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 or the Plugs & Sockets etc. (Safety) Regulations 1994.

Action taken

Yoto have initiated a corrective action programme to provide replacement adaptors to owners.

Advice to consumers

Affected consumers should cease use of the UK plug adapter and access the Yoto product safety page to order a replacement Type G pin adapter: https://uk.yotoplay.com/repair/replacementpin

For further details, and details on how to find out if your adapter is affected, please access the Yoto FAQ’s here: https://support.yotoplay.com/en-US/uk-plug-adaptor-for-2nd-generation-yoto-player-925793

Once you have received a replacement UK plug adaptor, the original should not be used again. Instead, original pin attachments can be disposed of as waste electrical equipment (WEEE) at your local Household Waste Recycling Centre or electrical retailer.
