Summary

Product Safety Report for Zoeller Lifting Systems presenting a high risk of injuries.

The risk

When in automatic mode, if a person enters the area under the lifting chair during the upward part of the lifting cycle they could, in specific circumstances, remain undetected by the working area protection device.

This is due to a blind zone extending 500mm from the face of the two circular ultrasonic sensors underneath the lifting chair.

A person within this blind zone when the downward movement starts may not be detected, resulting in them being struck or crushed by the descending machinery and / or load.

Users are reminded that the equipment must be operated in accordance with the operating instructions, user manuals and training provided, and that entry into the working area should be avoided while the machine is in automatic mode.

The product does not meet the requirements of the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008.

Action taken

Customers are being warned of the risk and supplied with technical bulletins, updated user guidance and safety information.

Advice to consumers

Warning customers of the risks.

The UK supplier, Faun Zoeller (UK) Limited, is issuing a technical bulletin to all known customers supplied with affected machines manufactured within the last eight years.

Updated user guidance and safety information will be provided to reinforce safe operating practices and awareness of the working area risks during the lifting cycle.

We recommend owners of RCV’s incorporating lifting systems with this type of working area protection contact their supplier for further information if they have not already been contacted.
